Anemone      

Anemone ( A-ne-mó-ne , from the Gr. Άνεμος, wind), is a genus of about 120 species of flowering plants in the buttercup family Ranunculaceae in the north and south temperate zones. They are closely related to Pasque flower ( Pulsatilla ) and Hepatica ( Hepatica ); some botanists include both of these genera within Anemone .

I recently visited a popular Barbados tourist attraction called the Animal Flower Cave, which can be found in the St Lucy Parish. The cave is so called the Animal Flower Cave because of the sea anemones, which are found in the pools within the cave.


Here are some that I found interesting to show you.


In part 2 of this 3 part series I will discuss the attributes of a few of the fibrous-rooted anemone species. As mentioned earlier, there are about 120 species of Anemone which fall into three groups; the tuberous-rooted, fibrous-rooted and tall, fall-flowering.


Tiny orange clownfish, made famous by the Disney character Nemo, use the smell of leaves and anemones in the water to find their way home on the coral reef.
